Founded in 1880, Crested Butte, Colorado was birthed from the gold and silver booms. In 1974, the town was designated a National Historic District.

Considered one of the last great ski towns, Crested Butte holds a special charm with the old west storefronts lining Elk Ave. which house watering holes, a nice variety of restaurants, coffee shops, book stores, outdoor gear, clothing and souvenir shops with every trinket imaginable.

Nestled in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Downhill ski and mountain-bike trails crisscross the slopes of Crested Butte Mountain Resort. There are Nordic ski routes around town. The West Elk Loop Scenic and Historic Byway takes in wilderness areas like Kebler Pass, to the west, known for colorful Quaking aspen trees in fall.

The Crested Butte Museum located at 331 Elk Ave. was the original home of the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame, founded in 1988 and  relocated from Crested Butte to Fairfax, CA in 2013. The museum is worth the visit and still houses a wonderful exhibit dedicated to the birth place of mountain biking.
